Where can I access the Match Group Law Enforcement Portal?

The Match Group Law Enforcement Portal has recently moved and we are now using a new system, Kodex, for all Law Enforcement requests. If you already have a Kodex account, please use your account to search for the Match Group tile to submit requests. If you do not have a Kodex account, please go to https://app.kodexglobal.com/match-group/signin to register for Kodex using your government issued email address. Once approved, you will be able to submit legal requests for Match Group, as well as many other organizations who are also using Kodex. What can I do in the Match Group Government Law Enforcement Portal?

This is a tool for authorized law enforcement officers or government officials to securely submit quick questions, legal or emergency requests, receive updates on these requests, and communicate directly with the Match Group legal team.

What is the difference between each request type?

  • Legal Request Match Group can respond to a legal request about a user (such as a warrant, subpoena, etc.) and produce available information when the appropriate documentation/paperwork is provided.
  • Preservation Request Match Group can preserve accounts in connection with a criminal investigation. You will be required to submit a formal preservation request through the Match Group Government Law Enforcement Portal by clicking “Get Started”. Records are preserved for a period of 90 days. To extend the preservation period, please submit an additional request.
  • Quick Questions Match Group can verify whether an individual exists on an app/website AND if there is information available.
  • Emergency Request Match Group can respond to a legal request about a user and produce available information with faster turnaround when the request has been validated as an emergency/exigent request (e.g., an effort to avoid imminent death, harm, or serious bodily injury) and appropriate documentation/paperwork is provided. Responses will be as soon as possible (Typically within 24 hours from time of receipt). What is the requirement for international legal requests?

Match Group is prepared to provide non-user content (such as email address, IP address, etc.) information to law enforcement in response to a search warrant, court order or other type of legal document which would be sufficient to require the production of such information under the laws of your jurisdiction. However, in light of our legal obligations, Match Group cannot disclose user content data (such as the content of messages) except in response to a valid search warrant or order issued under 28 U.S.C. § 1781 et seq (the “MLAT”). Under the MLAT, you must first contact the Central Authority in your country, who will make a request pursuant to the MLAT.

A law enforcement agency outside of the United States that is seeking records from a brand based in the United States, will require MLAT if content of messages are being sought. A law enforcement agency within the United States that is seeking records from a brand based outside the United States, will require MLAT if content of messages are being sought.

What is the requirement for U.S. legal requests?

To obtain records from a brand based in the United States, we will need a validly issued subpoena or search warrant. If you need the content of messages, we will need a search warrant – otherwise a subpoena will suffice.

What information can I provide to help locate an account?

To locate an account for the following brands, we will need the subsequent information.

For Tinder, we can locate an account with an email address, a phone number (including country code), and/or a screenshot of the Tinder account that shows the user’s name, age, photo, geo location, and bio text.

For Hinge, we can locate an account with an email address, a phone number (including country code), a screenshot of the account that shows the user’s name, age, and photo, and/or the user’s name, date of birth, and registered location.

For Okcupid, we can locate an account with an email address, a phone number (including country code), and/or a username.

What is the expected turnaround time for legal requests?

What is the expected turnaround time for emergency requests?

Law enforcement may submit a formal emergency request through the Match Group Law Enforcement Portal in the event that there is an emergency involving imminent risk of death or serious physical injury to any person. Once an emergency request has been submitted our team will respond within 24 hours.

What is the expected turnaround time for Quick Questions?
