What is the Match Group Law Enforcement Portal?

The Match Group Law Enforcement Portal is a tool for authorized law enforcement officers or government officials to securely submit general, legal or emergency requests, receive updates on these requests, and communicate directly with the Match Group legal team.

What is the difference between each request type?

General Request - Match Group can verify whether an individual exists on an app/website AND if there is information available.

Legal Request - Match Group can respond to a legal request about a user (such as a warrant, subpoena, etc.) and produce available information when the appropriate documentation/paperwork is provided.

Emergency Request - Match Group can respond to a legal request about a user and produce available information with faster turnaround when the request has been validated as an emergency/exigent request (e.g., an effort to avoid imminent death, harm, or serious bodily injury) and appropriate documentation/paperwork is provided. Responses will be as soon as possible (Typically within 24 hours from time of receipt).

What information can be provided for each brand?

With appropriate legal process, we can provide registration information (such as an email address, IP address, photos, DOB, etc.), communication history, etc. For more information, please submit an inquiry through the Match Group Law Enforcement Portal here.

How can I submit a preservation request? How long are records preserved?

We may preserve accounts in connection with a criminal investigation. You will be required to submit a formal preservation request through the Match Group Law Enforcement Portal here. Records are preserved for a period of 90 days. To extend the preservation period, please submit an additional request.

What is the requirement for international legal requests?

Match Group is prepared to provide non-user content (such as email address, IP address, etc.) information to law enforcement in response to a search warrant, court order or other type of legal document which would be sufficient to require the production of such information under the laws of your jurisdiction. However, in light of our legal obligations, Match Group cannot disclose user content data (such as the content of messages) except in response to a valid search warrant or order issued under 28 U.S.C. § 1781 et seq (the “MLAT”). Under the MLAT, you must first contact the Central Authority in your country, who will make a request pursuant to the MLAT.

A law enforcement agency outside of the United States that is seeking records from a brand based in the United States, will require MLAT if content of messages are being sought. A law enforcement agency within the United States that is seeking records from a brand based outside the United States, will require MLAT if content of messages are being sought.

For more information, please submit an inquiry through the Match Group Law Enforcement Portal here.

What is the requirement for U.S. legal requests?

To obtain records from a brand based in the United States, we will need a validly issued subpoena or search warrant. If you need the content of messages, we will need a search warrant – otherwise a subpoena will suffice.

A law enforcement agency within the United States that is seeking records from a brand based outside the United States, please see the requirements for international legal requests.

How should I direct my request for legal process and/or a preservation request?

If you are seeking records or need records preserved for the following brands, please direct your legal request accordingly when submitting documents through the Match Group Law Enforcement Portal. Requests should be made via the Match Group Law Enforcement Portal and do not need to be physically sent to these locations unless otherwise required by law. Please note that if you are seeking records for multiple brands, we will require separate legal requests for each brand directed to their respective entities.
